Hydrokinetic therapy combines hydrotherapy and kinesiotherapy, with the body immersed in therapeutic water. Kinesiotherapy is a method of physiotherapy that uses various movements and exercises to improve the mobility of the body, its limbs, and joints. This method utilizes all three factors of therapeutic water (chemical, thermal, and mechanical). Hydrokinetic therapy is highly valued for preventing permanent damage, such as pathological anatomical changes, atrophies, ankylosis, and deformities, as well as for aiding in their rehabilitation.
It is a notable complementary therapeutic method with excellent results in rheumatic diseases and musculoskeletal conditions. The therapy lasts from 5 to 30 minutes, once the patient has become sufficiently accustomed to the water. The duration of the therapy depends on the type of condition being treated. It is administered under the supervision of a physiotherapist, followed by a lukewarm shower at 30-32°C to bring the body temperature back to normal levels, and a rest period of at least 20 minutes.
